MAC devices
Supa MAC IPTV: portal boxes explained
A different way of connecting: instead of typing credentials into an app, the box identifies itself and the service sends it an entire interface.
What a MAC address is
Every network device has one — a permanent twelve-character identifier that looks like
00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. It is not secret and it is not a password. It is more like a serial
number for the network socket.
How a portal box works
MAG-style boxes, and Android apps that emulate them, do not run a channel list of their own. They ask a portal address for the interface and display whatever comes back. The service decides what that box may see, based on the MAC address registered against the subscription.
The practical consequence: there is nothing to type in each evening, and nothing to get wrong. The set-up cost is that somebody at the service end has to register your MAC before anything appears at all.
Finding your MAC address
- On the box: printed on a sticker underneath, usually next to the serial number.
- In the menus: System settings → About, or a similar path. It may be listed as the Ethernet or Wi-Fi address.
- Two addresses? Wired and wireless have different MACs. Register the one for the connection you will actually use — this catches people out constantly.
Setting one up with us
- Send us the MAC address exactly as printed, and say whether it is the wired or wireless one.
- We register it and send you the portal address.
- Enter the portal address in the box's settings.
- Restart the box. The interface downloads itself; the first load is the slow one.
Advantages and drawbacks
| Good | Less good |
|---|---|
| Nothing to type after setup | Nothing works until someone registers you |
| Very stable once running | Changing box means re-registering |
| Simple enough for anyone in the house | You are stuck with the portal's interface |
| Old hardware often keeps working for years | Wired and wireless MACs are easy to confuse |
A warning about cloned MACs
Some setups let you type in any MAC address you like. Entering somebody else's to get access to their subscription is theft, it stops working the moment they notice, and if you bought a box advertised as “pre-loaded” there is a fair chance that is exactly what was done to somebody. Register your own.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Can I change my registered MAC address?
If you bought from us, message us and we will move it. Expect to be asked to confirm you are the subscriber — that check protects you.
Does a MAC setup work on Android?
Some Android apps emulate a portal box and can be registered the same way. Whether it suits you depends on the app; ask before ordering.
My portal loads but there are no channels.
Usually the MAC is registered but the subscription has not been attached to it yet, or the wrong one of your two MACs was registered. Send us both and we will check.
Is my MAC address sensitive?
It identifies a device, not you, and it is visible to your own network anyway. Still worth not posting publicly, since it is what a subscription is tied to.
